KV-34 C/S

Pável and Boris

Unmanned Armoured Walking Vehicle

1:35 Scale

  • The KV-34 C/S “Pável and Boris” was a very unique model. It was developed while I was working on other and more extensive projects. The idea came to life quickly and was also developed at a rapid pace. It was ready in three months, from start to finish. The goal was to create a very small garage kit that could serve as a prize for a local modeling event. Although it never fulfilled its original purpose, it unexpectedly became a fundamental part of my garage kit catalog.

  • I conceived the model as a smaller sibling to the ELÄND. A four-legged mech but with a very compact size. My goal was to design a mini garage kit with a minimal number of parts, especially compared to my other projects, including the ORYX, which was still in development.

The design is based on the essential shapes of a KV-2 Soviet turret, and although it’s not directly related, I thought it would be fun for the model’s name to pay homage to its origin.

Initially, I planned the S version, “Boris”, a reconnaissance variant without weapons and featuring those two 'eyes' that I found so charming. However, I immediately doubted whether other modellers would find the idea as amusing as I did, so I decided to create a second combat version, C “Pável”, armed with a side gun and with a more serious front design. Both versions would be included in the same kit.

  • The model consists of 21 parts, cast in high-quality polyurethane resin, tinted with red or green pigment, unless otherwise specified by the modeler. Each piece is attached to a resin sprue, necessary for pouring the resin into the mold. These sprues must be carefully removed using a modeling saw. All parts are numbered for easy identification.

The kit includes an inventory of all parts, a step-by-step instruction manual, and a series of tips and tricks for assembling a resin model like this. Assembly is straightforward if the manual’s steps are followed closely, though a thorough preliminary review of the instructions is recommended. I always advise using metal pins to secure key pieces or joints that may be under stress. Additionally, the kit includes a set of cables for extra detailing.

The model measures 8x10x10 cm and weighs approximately 140 g. The models is 1:35 scale, although it could fit perfectly in other similar scales, including 28 mm and other tabletop games.

It is highly recommended to secure the key joints with glue and reinforce them with metal pins where necessary. The gun can be mounted on either side of the vehicle, although the original design places it on the left.

The kit box includes both versions, C “Pável” and S “Boris” (Combat and Scout). The modeler only needs to choose which one to build. The legs are single-piece components to which a small foot is added. This design allows for easy adaptation to any base or terrain while ensuring the model has great stability, making it suitable for use in tabletop and war games. With some additional modeling work, the legs can be modified to become fully articulated.
